if your unable to remove the software via Applications manager, Try using Revo Uninstaller(Free application) to force removal of the application, and any registry settings it may have associated with it. You can find the link for it here http://www.revouninstaller.com/ as for the hardware, Try a driver uninstall on the hardware manager as Alan suggested,Then remove your device, and reboot your system.
Could i ask, What Operating system are you currently running on the effected machine? It could be a problem with your usb port, have you tried a different port?
