RE: avg

usually happens when a virus corrupts user permissions on a specific registry key
it'll probably stop you installing another AV program as well
I can't remember the exact key, but the error message when uninstallation fails usually tells you
Can you give us the exact text of the error?

RE: avg

after a bit of digging...

its usually this registry key which is the problem:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

the permissions get locked down on it. You have to remove all existing permissions & owners for the key, then create new ones so that "everyone" has permissions for "all". Its often quite tedious trying to get the changes to "stick" in the registry

RE: avg

You can download the AVG removal tool here:

http://techdows.com/2009/04/download-avg-removal-tool.html

Make sure you choose the correct version for your computer (32-bit or 64-bit).

RE: avg

if its the problem I'm thinking of, that tool won't work. Try it and see
If I'm right, instructions to fix the problem are on this thread (the third post)
the 0x000 memory address error varies with the machine

RE: avg

Cheryl,

You can also try this AVG tool before trying to uninstall: http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/support/reset_access_avg9_en.exe

This will reset the registry permissions for AVG keys.
