i am running vista home premium my pc went through its normal updates it got to stage 3 and said 10

i am running vista home premium my pc went through its normal updates it got to stage 3 and said 100% complete do not turn off pc. it has been like this for six hours tried restarting but just retuned to same screen

its gone wrong
restart the machine, and tap the F8 key as it does so
When you get the menu, select "repair my computer" and choose the "system restore" option. Select a date from before this happened

Hi

Or you can try this.Restart your machine keep pressing F8 key for couple of times.You will get the menu with number of options from there select last know good configuration.

I'm guessing that Seth's idea won't work because it will treat the failed restart as a "good" configuration (even though its not). Thats a bug thats been there since the days of Windows NT4 (and for all I know OS2...)
If it DOES work it will be interesting to know
