RE: packard bell laptop black screen

Good morning,

Take out the battery and disconnect the power supply. Press the power button a few times. Connect only the power supply and try to boot.

If no joy...

You can try re-seating the memory. Make sure you're correctly grounded to ensure there's no risk of static damage.

Other than that, it could be the motherboard (most likely)

Kind regards

Chris

Harry
how old is it? Packard Bell machines tend to be short-lived and usually not worth repairing if the motherboards go wrong

RE: packard bell laptop black screen

Hi Chris, just be absolutely sure before you bin this laptop.
When you say "won't boot up, just black screen" do you mean that absolutely nothing happens when you press the "on" button? Or, do you hear any whirring or clicks from inside the case, or see any of the LED's light up or flicker?
If so then the mobo may be fine and your problem is with the screen or the cabling to it.

It sounds as if the update has not completed properly. Try turning the machine on, and after the BIOS messages, if any, press F8 repeatedly. This should give you the startup menu. You could try Safe mode, or Last Known Good. See if either of those work.
